Scale buildup can lead to causes many problems:

Scale buildup significantly wastes energy by reducing heat transfer efficiency. Even a thin calcium carbonate layer of just 0.76 mm can increase energy waste by approximately 27%.

Factors Contributing to Scale Formation

  • High TDS: A rise in Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) accelerates scale buildup as water evaporates.
  • Water Quality: Microbial growth and suspended solids in water can increase scale deposition, as these act as nucleation sites for crystal formation. Additionally, slime produced by bacteria can bind scales and other contaminants together.
  • High pH: An increase in pH and alkalinity levels decreases the solubility of calcium carbonate and other minerals in water, leading to scale formation.
  • Temperature: Higher temperatures cause carbon dioxide to evaporate, which facilitates scale formation.
Energy Saving Analysis

When the evaporation temperature is constant, for every 1 ℃ increase in condensation temperature, the power consumption rate of the compressor per unit cooling capacity increases by about 3-5%.
